One of my favorite TV shows to date is Designated Survivor. It tells the story about a man who's been thrusted into the presidential seat after a tragedy strikes the White House. I found great inspiration in Thomas Kirkman, the character, great pride in the morals and values he upheld despite everything that went on around him.

With this piece, I wanted to highlight these morals he upheld; strength, integrity, confidence in hard times, unity.

Superman has always been a symbol of hope, strength, integrity, and the new movie by James Gunn shows this clearly for me. The mixture between Clark and Superman, showing how he navigated both lives, how he needed to find that middle ground once he lost who he was, was inspiring.

I wanted to emphasize Superman's features, by cutting out every one of them from the screencaps I had found, I was able to bring this idea to life. My favorite part of the entire ensemble is the overlay of Superman flying on his cape. I placed this directly in the middle to be the first thing that the eye is drawn to. I wanted that "It's a bird, it's a plane, no! It's Superman!" to shine through.

Following the theme of inspiration, I decided to make myself a computer background. I wanted a specific scene of Superman pose. One of my favorite poses for any character is their back turned to the camera, but you can still make out the profile of their face, you can still tell who it is. With this in mind, I sought out a pose of Superman turned away.

Placing Superman in front of his symbol was my way of showing that symbol of hope that Superman is known for. Anyone can wear a red cape, but it takes someone special to where the symbol of Hope.

Lately, I've found inspiration in video game characters, specifically in Overwatch and Baldur's Gate 3. From left to right, the characters are Sombra, Emre, and my created character, Lorn. Each character has a special story to tell, through their designs and color schemes, their poses.

Each character has an emphasized color scheme, which pulls forward their identity in their own ways, paired up with the phrases I've placed behind them. They may be niche, but playing with overlays and layering is part of the fun.

ARTEMIS II LAUNCH POSTER

ARTEMIS II BANNER.jpg

VERSION 1

VERSION 2

The Artemis II launch was a tremendous day for many, ranging from those who were alive for the Apollo mission, to new stargazers, eager to watch Humanity reach for new heights. I felt like this launch was just what this world needed to instill a little hope, and so with that in mind, I went to work.

The first version of the poster was meant to pull attention more towards the middle, focusing on the rocket and the moon above. Because the mission was to reach the moon, I also applied a black and white filter to the astronauts, symbolizing the mission itself. With the second version, I went for a new approach completely. I had drawn out the flight trajectory of the Orion capsule in Illustrator, applied it to the poster to encircle the moon and show on the planet how they flew. Instead of the small box profiles of the astronauts, I found their profiles on the NASA website to work with.

I wanted the second version to feel like an actual movie poster, something to grab your attention and get you excited.
